Hola again from Honduras! So it looks like this internet cafe has some pretty solid internet so we might try and upload a video from our team endeavors in the next day or so. Everyday we have been learning more about God, more about Honduran culture and more espanol! I've been really proud of the team. Today we woke up and had our devotional meeting followed by an amazing Honduran breakfast. Our breakfast consisted of fresh scrambled eggs, homemade red beans (the women get up to start the beans at 4 AM! And these red beans are not like we have in the states), homemade tortillas, and a freshly plucked avocado from the tree that grows on the property. Amazing. Think of them like breakfast taco's, they were amazing. After breakfast we went straight to construction where after only 4 days of work we saw all the cinder block walls starting to come together. Some of us spent the day shoveling and preparing mortar. Some of us spent the day pick-axing and digging a place for a septic tank. Some of us mortared. Some of us carried and laid cinder blocks and some of us barreled sand. That's right, we're machines. The team is doing awesome despite all the heat, but we have to remember to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate or else it's no bueno.
Today we also split up into teams of three to go to different houses to have lunch with the families from the church. I was split up with Andy Simionas and Kate and we went to a home where we had great food and great fellowship with our family. Andy Simionas was a life saver in our group because is spanish is bomb. Kate and I just tried to keep up with everything that is going on, which leads me to my next goal in life: Learn Spanish.
Umberto who is the lead church planter in Honduras, organized a futbol game in La Ceiba where we showed up looking like the Sandlot team. The other team definitely showed up in matching jerseys and cleats. Very hard core. The game was intense and pretty evenly matched, but the North Americanos fell to the Hondurans 5-2. It was a close game until the last 15 minutes of the second half. Bryce Nelson was definitely our MVP scoring both our teams goals. This was definitely my first soccer game ever, so I was running around like a chicken. Why does it look so much more organized on TV?
Well it's been a full day and were getting ready to go to dinner, we are healthy except for those of us who are a little tired and sore, but we are doing well! (For all the worriers out there). Hopefully I'll get to update you again soon.
Bendecidos, (Blessed)
Steve Dang
